Roughton Gill and the Mines of The caldbeck Fells
Description
Ian Tyler, HB, 320pp
This the latest and penultimate book by Ian on the Mining in Cumbria, the book is dedicated to Jean Tyler who passed away in 2007. Ian has been researching this area for some thirty years and has received help from may sources to complete this work. Mining has taken place on these fells for over 400 years starting with the German Adventurers of the 16th Century to the Barytes Mines of Potts Gill in the 1960's. The book provides details of each mine, photographs and plans where available. I like the Hardback style it does the book justice, as ever Ian's style easy to read comes through as he relates the story of each of the mines. He also provides a list mine workers on the fells starting with the German Miners of the 1560's
