Industrial archaeology is becoming an increasingly popular subject. Wherever you go in Britain you can see some relic of our industrial past. Christine Vialls shows how the interest aroused by casual visits can be followed up by an investigation into some particular subject, and describes a number of projects undertaken by amateur industrial archaeologists which have made a worth-while contribution to our knowledge. The last and longest chapter is an account of the weavers' houses in Macclesfield; text and illustrations are the work of the pupils of a local school and it provides an excellent model for any group wishing to undertake a similar project.
