IA Recordings. Running time 47 minutes

IA Recordings produced a special video presentation at the recent 2003 NAMHO Conference - the title being Land of Poets, Scholars and Mines. The video was designed both as an introduction to Irish Mining and to give an overview of those sites which were to be discussed or visited. To this end, it provides a tour of both surface and underground remains and takes the viewer on a real armchair exploration. The true atmosphere of the Irish Mines is captured perhaps most alluringly with the Man Engine House at Allihies which is in my opinion the jewel of Irish Mining. The rest of the engine houses and underground is not neglected either. Not to be outdone is the superb Williams Engine house at Avoca which is one of the best preserved engine house buildings; the chimney having recently been repaired. The other engine houses and the 850 yard level provide a view of different mining methods used on this site. The mines at Silvermines, Tankardstown, Bunmahom, Glendalough and Glendasan are also heavily featured. A further highlight is the working zinc mine at Tara, in County Meath which shows all the mining practices and equipment as well as the final processing mill and separation processes. The well written commentary guides you through the various sites and scenes and it is complemented by pleasant Irish background music. If you have even the slightest interest in mining or Ireland, then this video is definitely worth having. The video is available in PAL or NTSC format - PAL supplied unless otherwise specified.
